Five questions for your next review.

A blood test is one part of a clinical assessment. A conversation with the clinician who requested it helps you understand the purpose and the next step.

What are we looking for?

Ask why the test is being requested and how the result could help guide your care.

Do I need to prepare?

Some tests need preparation. Follow the instructions given by your clinic and ask if anything is unclear.

When and how will I hear?

Ask when results are expected, who will review them and how the clinic will contact you.

What does this mean for me?

Your clinician can explain the result alongside your symptoms and history. Avoid deciding on treatment from a result alone.

What happens next?

You may need a discussion, repeat testing or another investigation. Check what has been agreed and when to follow up.
