A little preparation. A better conversation.
Making the most of your GP appointment: a few simple ways to organise your questions and leave with clear next steps.
PATIENT GUIDE · 4 MIN READ
Start with what matters to you.
It is easy to remember an important question just after an appointment ends. A short note can help you make the conversation feel calmer and more useful.
Write down your main concern
Think about what brought you to the appointment and what you would most like help with. If you have several questions, list them and discuss your priorities at the start.
Bring the details that tell your story
Note when a symptom started, how it has changed and how it affects everyday life. Bring your current medicines list and any relevant results or letters.
Ask for a clear explanation
If a word or a next step is unclear, say so. Questions such as “What are my options?” and “What happens next?” can help you understand the plan.
Leave with the next step agreed
Before you finish, check how results will reach you, whether a review is needed and whom to contact if you have further questions.
